Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year

This is our new second-grade blog and we hope that you will find lots of useful information here as the year progresses. 

We are so excited to meet our new 2nd Graders. This year will be filled with many changes and exciting adventures. 

Here's the Buzz in ELA!

We will begin the year with the unit We Are Ready to Read and Write! Your child will be introduced to our norms and procedures for Shared Reading, Guided Reading, Interactive Read Aloud, Phonics, & Writing. 

You can expect them to receive whole group instruction and small group conferencing during ELA. 

Here's the Buzz in Math!

We use Eureka Math and your child has received a workbook to help guide their learning. Please take some time to have a look at this resource so that you have an idea of what is coming. It is very helpful for students to be fluent in adding and subtracting within 10 to start the year strong. The better they are at this skill, the easier it will be for them to make the leap into 2nd grade math! 

You can expect whole group instruction and small group conferencing during math. 

Here's the Buzz in Science & Social Studies!

During the first few weeks of school, we will be spending a lot of time getting to know our students. Building strong relationships and a welcoming community is our most important goal during this time. In addition, we will be teaching students lots of new technology and providing them enough time to practice and become confident with them. Therefore, we won't be doing science or social studies yet. The 2nd grade science and social studies curriculum are super fun so you and your child have some good stuff to look forward to!
